The New York Mets rolled out an epic 1-2 punch for Sunday's doubleheader versus the Cleveland Guardians with Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander tabbed as the starters. The two sport a combined six Cy Young awards, three World Series titles and nearly 6,500 career strikeouts. Scherzer confused the Guardians bats over his six innings of work, striking out five batters in the scoreless outing. Verlander added the cherry on-top a few hours later, going eight innings and retiring 22 of the final 24 batters he faced. Overall, the pair allowed just one run on 14 and two thirds innings pitched.
