It’s been a long wait, but Texas Rangers veteran pitcher Max Scherzer returned to the mound on Sunday for his 2024 season debut. The three-time Cy Young Award winner had it going, shutting out the Kansas City Royals over five frames and striking out four. To add a cherry on top of Scherzer’s return, his fourth punchout of the day tied Hall-of-Famer Greg Maddux for 11th (3,371) on the MLB all-time list. Scherzer’s first campaign start helped pick up the 4-0 win.
