On Sunday the Chicago Cubs immortalized one of their greatest players in franchise history. Ten-time All-Star Ryne Sandberg returned to Wrigley Field to see the unveiling of his statue before the team took on the New York Mets. The honor comes 40 years after perhaps Sandberg’s most famous game where he hit two homers off of Hall of Fame closer Bruce Sutter -- the moment helped to cement his legacy as an eventual National League MVP that season. “Can’t really say it’s what I thought,” said Sandberg with a smile after the ceremony. “It’s more than what I thought.”
