OCTOBER 4, 1961 — A year after firing two complete-game shutouts in the 1960 World Series, Whitey Ford was at it again in the 1961 Fall Classic. Ford kept the Reds batters off balance all game long, surrendering merely two hits and walking one batter, while striking out six over nine frames. The complete-game marked Ford's third straight World Series shutout and gave the Yankees a 2-0 win and 1-0 series advantage.
