The San Diego Padres were holding onto their 3-2 lead by a thread, as they faced a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth turned a masterful 4-6-3 double play to escape the inning and preserve the lead. Cronenworth started the double play by fielding a laser ground ball by Sheldon Neuse that was registered at 105 mph off the bat, per Statcast. Jake did not field the ball cleanly but found his footing to deliver a high throw to Tatis Jr., who kept his foot on the bag and fired a strike to first base to narrowly beat the baserunner.
