JULY 25, 1956 — Roberto Clemente accomplished something never done before in MLB history during this contest between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs. Trailing, 8-5, in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded, Clemente smoked a high and inside pitch well over the left fielder's head that rolled alongside the base of the wall to center field. Roberto hustled around the bases, ignored Pirates manager and third base coach Bobby Bragan's stop sign and made it home for a walk-off, inside-the-park grand slam.
