Fernando Tatis Jr. set the tone in last night’s game with a lead-off blast in the top of the first inning. As he rounded first base during his home run trot, he turned to the San Diego Padres dugout and covered one eye with his hand. Tatis Jr. did this in a joking manner of Trevor Bauer, who notoriously pitches with one eye closed to humiliate opposing hitters. “El Niño” would strike again, as he torched another solo blast to take the lead in the sixth inning. Tatis Jr. is now the first player in MLB history to have consecutive, two-homer games against Cy Young Award winners on back-to-back days. Despite a big night at the plate for Fernando, the Los Angeles Dodgers would go on to win, 5-4.
