SEPTEMBER 6, 1995 — Fans flooded Oriole Park at Camden Yards for the Wednesday night matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and the California Angels in anticipation of the most cherished milestone in the League being broken. Cal Ripken Jr. entered the contest tied with Lou Gehrig's 56-year-old record for most consecutive games played at 2,130. After the top half of the fifth inning came to an end, Ripken Jr.'s total went to 2,131 and the ballpark erupted with pure joy.
