OCTOBER 20, 1973 — Facing elimination in Game 6 of the 1973 World Series, the Oakland Athletics were set to square off against the New York Mets and two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Tom Seaver. Power-hitting outfielder Reggie Jackson rose to the occasion and had a monster day at the plate to force a Game 7. The 27-year-old went 3-for-4 at the plate a pair of clutch doubles, two RBI and scored once himself. The Athletics would carry this momentum into Game 7 and capture the franchise's seventh World Series title.
