Mike Piazza

APRIL 24, 1998 — The opportunity to hit with bases loaded doesn’t happen frequently during the season, but that certainly was not the case for Mike Piazza in the opening weeks of the 1998 season. The future backstop had already connected for two grand slams in the first 19 games and connected for the trifecta off of Cubs starter Kerry Wood. This blast tied an MLB record, making him only the sixth player in history to hit three grand slams in one month.
