Pete Alonso of the New York Mets slugged his 41st home run of the season in the Mets' 7-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on July 12, 2021. The first baseman's long ball came off of Miami starter Pablo Lopez in the first inning, giving him sole possession of first place in the National League in home runs. Alonso's blast was a towering 445-foot shot that landed in the upper deck at Citi Field. The Mets improved to 50-41 on the season with the win.
