Remarkably, this made him just the third player in Major League Baseball history to pass the jaw-dropping benchmark in his rookie year. The milestone hit came in a contest between Ichiro's Seattle Mariners and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, which the Mariners lost, 6-0. Predictably, the 200th hit was feverously celebrated by Mariners fans, who were having an incredible season, to say the least.
