SEPTEMBER 6, 2009 — Ichiro is world-renowned for his game-defining penchant for hitting, and on this day, Ichiro picked up the 2,000th hit of his Major League Baseball career. The hit came in a meeting between his Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics, when on just the second pitch of the contest, Ichiro belted an extra-base hit just to the left of the first-base foul line. Incredibly, this made Ichiro the second-fastest player in MLB history to reach the milestone, placing him just behind the legendary Al Simmons.
