Legendary fireballer Nolan Ryan broke Sandy Koufax's single-season strikeouts record of 382 when he whiffed the 383rd batter of his Major League Baseball campaign. This made Ryan the single-season strikeouts record-holder in the modern era, a record that still stands to this day, and came after an incredibly successful performance in his California Angels meeting with the Minnesota Twins. Amazingly, Ryan whiffed 16 Twins batters over the course of the contest.
