Carl Yastrzemski records his 3,000th career hit on September 22, 1979, becoming the first American League player to reach the milestone and just the second player in Major League history to do so. The milestone hit came in the form of a pinch-hit single off New York Yankees pitcher Jim Beattie at Fenway Park. Yaz would finish his legendary career with 3,419 hits, all with the Red Sox, cementing his place as one of the greatest players in franchise and MLB history.
