Johnny Bench

JULY 26, 1970 — Johnny wasted no time getting the Reds on the board against the Cardinals, slugging a first-inning, three-run home run. The early blow set the tone for what would be a monstrous game for the backstop. Bench homered again in the second inning with a runner aboard, added a third home run in the fifth and capped his day with an RBI groundout in the eighth frame. The stellar performance resulted in seven RBI and a 12-5 thrashing of the Cardinals.
