Mark McGwire
Surpasses Ruth's consecutive-season HR record
Mark McGwire - 2022 MLB TOPPS NOW® Turn Back The Clock - Card 155 - PR: 290
SEPTEMBER 1, 1998 — On this day, legendary slugger Mark McGwire hit the 56th and 57th home runs of his 1998 Major League Baseball campaign, making history in the process. These two blasts brought his tally to 115 home runs across the 1997 and 1998 seasons. This mark topped the consecutive-season, home-run record set by Babe Ruth across the 1927 and 1928 seasons. Furthermore, his 57th home run of the 1998 season broke Hack Wilson’s NL single-season, home-run record.
