Mark McGwire

OCTOBER 18, 1988 — Mark McGwire was indispensable to his Oakland Athletics, and on this day in 1988, the then-two-time MLB All-Star belted a walk-off home run to hand his Club a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the World Series. The storied longball, which was a solo shot, was belted off Dodgers hurler Jay Howell, and was the highlight of the World Series from the point of view of Athletics fans.
