JULY 4, 1979 — Pitted against the division-rival Mets, Steve fired four hitless innings before allowing the first Mets baserunner in the fifth inning. However, the stingy left-hander kept the bases clear for the rest of the contest, firing a complete-game, one-hit shutout to lead the Phillies to a narrow, 1-0 win.
