Steve Carlton
Becomes all-time left-handed strikeouts leader
Steve Carlton - 2022 MLB TOPPS NOW® Turn Back The Clock - Card 98 - PR: 385
Steve Carlton had an incredible Major League Baseball career, and on this day in 1980, he broke a monolithic record. During a contest between his Philadelphia Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals, Carlton struck out an impressive seven Cardinals batters, bringing his career-strikeouts total to a jaw-dropping 2,836. Incredibly, this broke Mickey Lolich's previously held strikeout record to make Carlton the all-time strikeouts leader for a left-handed hurler.
